Otsile Moumakoe, the creative force hailing from Pretoria and now based in Cape Town, is a self-taught visual artist with an innate passion for creative expression. His journey into the world of Vtsek Studios began in 2020, a year marked by lockdowns and global uncertainty. Frustration and restlessness gripped many, including Otsile, who found solace in the act of creating art.

Recognizing the digital shift as people increasingly turned to their phones, laptops, and iPads, Otsile decided to share his work on a social media platform, specifically Instagram. The name “Vtsek” was born out of Otsile’s desire to convey a sense of unapologetic boldness, mirroring his artistry’s fearless spirit. It reflects his determination not to apologize for crafting “dope things” that resonate with the youth culture.

Since its inception, Vtsek Studios has gotten the attention and admiration of notable figures within South Africa’s creative landscape. High-profile individuals such as Riky Rick, Scoop Makhathini, Laduma (the founder of Maxhosa), Thebe Magugu, and Andile Dlamini of the BROKE Boys are among the growing list of supporters. Otsile’s artistic prowess and unique perspective have earned him a well-deserved place in the spotlight.

One of the highlights of Otsile’s journey this year was his inclusion in the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives Class of 2023, a testament to his growing influence in the art and design world. Additionally, he achieved a significant milestone by selling his first print, marking a remarkable step forward in his artistic career. Currently pursuing studies in graphic design, Otsile believes that the balance between education and his creative work is essential. He values every moment and refuses to waste time in his pursuit of artistic excellence.
